Event History

In 1994, when the Jazz Brunch was first held, Houston’s former Mayor Bob Lanier wrote, “Houston is a culturally rich city with an international character that lends itself to the success of the Houston International Jazz Festival.”

Former Mayor Lee P. Brown, who hosted the brunch every year during his six years in office delighted in the announcement of the Festival and the brunch, saying, “It allows another opportunity to showcase the city and all that it has to offer.”

In 2004, Mayor Bill White kept the Jazz Brunch tradition going. He said the purpose of the event is a “good thing” for the City of Houston.

The Honorable Mayor Sylvester Turner continued supporting Jazz Education and music education through scholarships. “Jazz is America’s unique contribution to the music world. Houston, being the most diverse city in the nation, is a unique look into America’s future. I’m proud to help jazz and Houston intersect at a place where we can help college-bound students become the next brilliant composers and performers.” – Mayor Turner
